The Town Council has commissioned the Birmingham City Council Landscape Practise (LPG) to carry out consultation with the local community on the location for a proposed new play area in Boldmere.
The LPG has the relevant experience and expertise in the design of new play areas. In January 2017 they completed a site assessment on the two sites put forward by the Town Council's Amenities, Leisure and Community Services Committee for a new play area in Boldmere.
The assessment demonstrated the benefits and disadvantages of constructing play areas in each of the locations. The analysis looked at the topography, current land use, known local issues, planning restrictions, site safety, potential risk for vandalism or anti-social behaviour and statutory designations.
You can access the report HERE.
The play area would be located within Sutton Park past Powell’s Pool, next to the 2nd car park, which is the site of the former funfair.
The play area would be located in the small park adjacent to Boldmere Infant and Junior schools on Cofield Road. It can also be accessed via an alleyway on Antrobus Road.
Each site would be suitable for a play area but there are pros and cons for each and for different members of the community, which is why the Town Council is consulting locally.
An information event will be held at:
The Carpenter’s Arms Community Centre
Saturday 18th March 10am until 2pm
Residents living in the nearest 1000 properties to each site and the properties in between will receive a letter and return envelope enabling them to submit their preferences. Please see the map below.
If you would like to submit your views on the proposed play areas you can email the Landscape Practice Group at LPG@birmingham.gov.uk. Closing date for comments is Friday 24th March 2017.
