Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council is backing a national campaign to get half a million people out and about cleaning up their local communities.
The Great British Spring Clean weekend will take place between Friday 2nd – Sunday 4th March. The Town Council is keen to hear from residents, businesses or community groups who would like to organise a clean-up over the weekend or during the month of March. The Council can supply refuse sacks and equipment as well as arranging for the collection and disposal of the litter collected. A programme of events will be collated and promoted on our website and on social media, so you can join in an event near you.
Cllr Terry Wood, the Chairman of the Sutton Coldfield in Bloom working party, commented: “We know there are lots of groups across the town already organising their own litter picks. We’d love to be able to highlight their efforts and support them.
“I’m very keen to support this initiative, to keep our Royal town looking at its best. This is the first year the town has entered Heart of England In Bloom and judging will take place in July. We know that the judges pay great attention to this kind of community activity to keep the town clean, alongside viewing beautiful floral displays, so we would really encourage the community to take part.”
The national campaign is organised by Keep Britain Tidy and there are lots of useful tools and information to help event organisers – see http://www.keepbritaintidy.org/get-involved/support-our-campaigns/great-british-spring-clean
