Mayor pays tribute to town’s community spirit in his Christmas message

The Mayor of Royal Sutton Coldfield has praised the strong community spirit in the town in his Christmas message.

Councillor Derrick Griffin said: “I have met very many volunteers as part of my official duties this year and I am very aware of the strong sense of community in our Royal Town. Sutton Coldfield has a long tradition of people doing exceptional work for the benefit of residents. In the autumn I was privileged to present the Community Awards to some of our unsung heroes, but I know that there are many more people who support their neighbours and their communities every day. Representing the town at official events, I see a strong sense of civic pride, and I too am proud to say I live in Sutton Coldfield.

“I also know that many people will be working and volunteering over the Christmas period, looking after the vulnerable, the lonely and the sick and I want to thank them and pay tribute to them.

“I want to wish everyone in the Town a peaceful and joyful Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.”
